Here’s Why Good Tools Are Essential For Wax Success

It’s true, the best investment you can make is in the tools of your trade. As you sharpen your skills with ongoing education, you might as well back up your training by stocking your wax room with the best supporting cast of tools on the market today. The right tools will increase efficiency, boost your services and increase your bottom line. Here are a few of our non-negotiables that we feel are essential for wax success.

The Right Wax Warmer

There are two things we know are 100% true when it comes to the perfect wax treatment—temperature is important and not all wax warmers are created equal. That’s why we can’t emphasize it enough—invest in a good warmer. Temperature is key to a smooth, clean wax.Under heated wax goes on too thick, doesn’t remove the hair as well, and can lead to bruising. If the wax is too hot, it can burn the skin. A quality warmer will also heat both hard and soft wax evenly allowing for you to focus on taking care of your client, not worrying about the wax temperature. And make sure your wax warmer offers temperature settings, as you should always adjust based on the temperature of your room.

Spatulas for the Win

Fact: Large plastic reusable spatulas can cut your waxing time by 50% and are the key to successfully speed waxing areas such as legs. So even though it takes a few minutes between appointments to clean and sterilize, they are well worth it because you will save time and money. Smaller disposable wooden spatulas are perfect for areas such as the face, underarms and bikini. When using various sized spatulas, know that certain spatulas can result in applying the wrong amount of wax to the skin, and cause you to use more than you need for each treatment.

Strong Strips

Strong, reusable, and cleaner: non-woven strips are strong enough to be used many times before throwing them away (half legs, for example, would use seven strips total). You’ll also love that the wax doesn’t come through the strip, which keeps your hands clean during the procedure. The wide strips also allow you to remove and rub as you go, creating a cleaner, more efficient process.

Pre & Post-Wax Experiences

Never underestimate the power of good pre and post-wax products. Specifically designed to condition the skin, start with a pre-depilatory oil prior to waxing. Then follow up post-wax with an essential oil to calm and cool the skin, and an acne-control gel to help prevent breakouts (especially when waxing the face, chest and upper back). And the best thing you can use to remove those unsightly hairs that might be left over post-wax? A good pair of slanted tweezers.
